STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO Steamboat Mountain Film Festival, and it's Reel People Award, has just received a boost from festival partner NossaTV.com, who matched the festival's $500 prize to bring the total to $1000 cash being awarded. Filmmakers will square off for the cash along with a pair of Liberty Skis, outwear from Helly Hansen, and goggles and poles from Scott. Additionally, the date for entry has been extended to Wednesday, September 19th, at 5 p.m.

"We are thrilled to have NossaTV.com as a sponsor and their contribution to the festival allows us to give filmmakers greater exposure and a prize worth fighting for," says Michael Martin, festival organizer and Director of the Ski and Snowboard Business program at Colorado Mountain College. "I can't wait to see what filmmakers have produced for this exciting event."

The Reel People category of the Festival will be judged by the audience of WZ-TV, through video on demand website NossaTV.com. To compete for the Reel People awards, filmmakers must submit 3-5 minute clips/teasers in addition to their full length films to be considered. They will begin airing on WZ-TV, September 24, 2007 with online voting to begin concurrently on NossaTV.com. Awards will be given on Saturday, October 13th, with screenings of the films throughout the Festival. Further, filmmakers will have their works screened on the local television show, WZ-TV.

Clips must be sent to both the film festival and to NossaTV in order to be considered for the Reel People awards. Submission guidelines and forms are available at the respective websites:

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO — With a new venue and the addition of WZ-TV, a television show, the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival returns with filmmakers competing for top honors and the chance for their films to be showcased on the big screen and television. Held October 11-13th, this year’s festival will feature films from across the states and filmmakers will have the opportunity to showcase their works on Steamboat TV-18’s WZ-TV. Filmmakers will be squaring off for $500 cash in the Reel People category.

The Reel Steamboat Awards (formerly known as the Northwest Colorado Outdoor Action Film Contest) will split submissions into two categories. The "Reel Open" category allows for any adventure theme based films, which can be any length. This classification broadens the range of film offerings to be screened as they do not need to be an action-sport based. Festival judges will decide which films will be screened and award the Best Overall Open title. Prizes will be awarded on Oct 13th.

The "Reel People" category will be judged by the audience of WZ-TV, through online voting. Competitors for this category will be vying for People’s Choice, Best Powder, Best Line/Performance. To compete for the Reel People awards, filmmakers must submit 3-5 minute clips/teasers in addition to their full-length films to be considered. These clips will begin airing on WZ-TV, September 17, 2007 with online voting to begin concurrently on NossaTV.com. Awards will be given on Saturday, October 13th, with screenings of the winning films. With the induction of the television show, filmmakers and athletes will have a chance to showcase their works in multiple formats and connect with the audience through the month long voting on NossaTV.com. The festival will also be the host of a collection of top action films from around the world including Matchstick Productions and Teton Gravity Research.

"With the festival arriving at the five year mark, I am excited to bring a new format to the competition. With the ability to offer more outlets to showcase filmmakers, I believe we can create a deeper connection between filmmakers and the audience." said Michael Martin, festival organizer and Director of the Ski and Snowboard Business program at Colorado Mountain College. "The festival has always been about bringing together locals to share their talents and showcase the life here in Steamboat."

Local artist Max Damore will be creating a new display for the event and venue. Throughout the festival, all attendees will have the opportunity to win prize-drawings for Liberty skis, Helly Hansen, Scott, and BAP/Big Agnes, as well as other prizes.

The festival will begin Thursday, October 11th and conclude Saturday, October 13th. Tickets are $10 and can be pre-purchased from 10a.m to 5p.m. starting on September 17th at Ski Haus and Surefoot (Ski Time Square) cash only. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the evening of the event. Each film entrant will receive two tickets to the festival.
